Density Flashcards

All 6 cards in this deck

What is the equation for density?

density == mass ÷\div volume
ρ=m/V\rho = m / V, with mass in kg and volume in m3^3 giving kg/m3^3.

What is the SI unit of density, and what other unit is often used?

kg/m3^3; g/cm3^3 is also used.

What are the steps to find the mass of an object from its density and volume?

e.g. density 20002000 kg/m3^3, volume 33 m3^3

  1. Rearrange: mass == density ×\times volume
  2. Substitute: 2000×32000 \times 3
  3. Mass =6000= 6000 kg

What are the steps to convert a density in g/cm3^3 into kg/m3^3?

e.g. 2.72.7 g/cm3^3

  1. Multiply the value by 10001000: 2.7×10002.7 \times 1000
  2. Density =2700= 2700 kg/m3^3

What is the density of water in kg/m3^3 and in g/cm3^3?

10001000 kg/m3^3, which is 11 g/cm3^3.

True or false? A large object always has a greater density than a small object.

False. Density depends on mass divided by volume, so a large light object can be less dense than a small heavy one.
