His name 'Goole' suggests a supernatural or ghost like element, and he seems to know what the characters will say before they do. He delivers a frightening message when he leaves, that if people do not take responsibility for each other, the world is doomed.

The word Goole sounds like the word ghoul which is another way of saying ghost. The inspector seems to always know what will happen before it occurs. Also, he ends the story with a mysterious message. Thus, the character of the inspector is mysterious and unknown, creating an element of curiosity for the readers. So, for this reason the name Goole is significant in this story as it implies that the Inspector is more mysterious than he seems.
