10% of 500p= 50p

5% of 500p= 25p

15% of 500p = 50p +25p = 75p

That would be my mental method

Qualified teacher, 30 years experience, I help to unlock potential

HI, I would find 10% by dividing £5 by 10. This means moving the decimal point one place to the left which would gove you £0.5 or 50p. I would then halve this to find 5% which would be 25p. Add the 10% and %5 together to get 15% which is 50p + 25p = 75p.

On a calculator you would type 5 x 0.15 which would give you 0.75.

Hope that helps :)

Looking for an experienced, attentive and patient tutor? Here I am!

I would look at it like this:

15% is the same as 10% + 5%

£5 is 500 pennies

so for 10% of 500 pennies (500 divided by 100 and multiplied by 10) = 50 pennies

5% is half of 10%

So if 10% is 50 pennies

5% is 25 pennies

10% + 5% = 15%

50 + 25 = 75 pennies

15% of £5 = 75 pennies or £0.75

Find 10% of £5 which is 0.5 and half that to get 5% which is 0.25 and both answers together which is 0.75.

£5 is equal to 100%, therefore if you are to divide it by 10 you can find 10% (as 10 x 10 = 100)

10%= £5/10=£0.50

As 5% will be half of 10%, you can divide £0.50 by 2 to get 5% which is £0.25

15% is equal to the sum of the 10% and 5% you have already found, £0.50 + £0.25 = £0.75

Therefore 15% of £5 is equal to £0.75

Hi Abdullah,

This is how I would approach the question.

First I would find out 10% of £5 which would be 50p as when you work out 10% you divide £5 by 10.

I have left to work out 5% which will be half the value of 10%. As 10% is 50p 5% would be 25p.

I now have both 10% and 5% which when added together gives you 15%.

Thus, 50p + 25p = 75p

So 15% of £5 is 75p

To work out 15% of £5, it would be easier to work out 10% and then 5% and then add the two together.

So,

10% of £5 = 0.50p and

1% of £5 = 0.05p therefore

5% of £5 = 0.05 x 5 = 0.25p

0.50p + 0.25p = 0.75p

The answer is 75p

First, divide £5 by 10 to find 10% of £5 - which is £0.5 or 50p. Then, divide this by 2 to find 5% of the original, which is 25p.

Add the 10% and 5% together to find 15% - 75p!

Hi Abdullah, first you would find 10% which you can find by dividing the number by 10. 10% of £5 would be 50p. Next you would find 5% which is half of 10%, this would be 25p. To get 15%, you would need to add these two numbers together: 75p

If you have a calculator, multiply 5 by 0.15 (as 0.15 is the same as 15%) = 0.75

Without a calculator, find 10% by dividing by 10 (=0.50), and 5% by dividing that by 2 (=0.25), then add together = 0.75

Firstly we can work out 10% of £5. This would be 50p. We have taken £5.00 and moved the decimal place forward by one digit. We then work out half of this 10% (50p) which would be 25p. We can add our 10% and 5% together now to reach a total of 15%. 50p + 25p is 75p. So 75p is our answer!

step 1: 100% = £5 so dividing it by 100 gives us 1%

5 ÷ 100 = 0.05

step 2: multiply the answer by the percentage we wish to find 1% x 15 = 15%

0.05 x 15 = 0.75

15% of £5 = £0.75

Find 10% by dividing £5 by 10 = £0.50

Find 5% by dividing our 10% £0.50 by 2 = £0.25

Add £0.50 and £0.25 = £0.75 or 75p

First find 10% of 5 = 5/10 = 0.5

Then find 5% of 5 = 0.25

Then add up both to get final answer = 0.5 + 0.25 = 0.75
