Firstly we can work out 10% of £5. This would be 50p. We have taken £5.00 and moved the decimal place forward by one digit. We then work out half of this 10% (50p) which would be 25p. We can add our 10% and 5% together now to reach a total of 15%. 50p + 25p is 75p. So 75p is our answer!

If you have a calculator, multiply 5 by 0.15 (as 0.15 is the same as 15%) = 0.75
Without a calculator, find 10% by dividing by 10 (=0.50), and 5% by dividing that by 2 (=0.25), then add together = 0.75

Hi Abdullah, first you would find 10% which you can find by dividing the number by 10. 10% of £5 would be 50p. Next you would find 5% which is half of 10%, this would be 25p. To get 15%, you would need to add these two numbers together: 75p

Hi Abdullah. So since you are trying to find the percentage, you will do 15 divided by 100 (whole) multiplied by £5 of which you are trying to find 15%.

If you look at 15%, that can be split into 10% and 5%. That now makes it a little bit easier to workout.
To find out 10% of a number we divide it by 10. So 5 divided by 10 is 0.5, thus £5 divided by 10 is 50p.
Now we need to workout out the other remaining 5% from our 15%.
What is the relationship between 5 and 10? It is half! So, if 10% of £5 was 50p, 5% of £5 has to be half of 50p, which is 25p.
So, 10% of £5 = 50p.
5% of £5 = 25p.
Therefore, 15% would equal both our answers together (50p + 25p) which equals 75p.
Hi Abdullah,
This is how I would approach the question.
First I would find out 10% of £5 which would be 50p as when you work out 10% you divide £5 by 10.
I have left to work out 5% which will be half the value of 10%. As 10% is 50p 5% would be 25p.
I now have both 10% and 5% which when added together gives you 15%.
Thus, 50p + 25p = 75p
So 15% of £5 is 75p
£5 is equal to 100%, therefore if you are to divide it by 10 you can find 10% (as 10 x 10 = 100)
10%= £5/10=£0.50
As 5% will be half of 10%, you can divide £0.50 by 2 to get 5% which is £0.25
15% is equal to the sum of the 10% and 5% you have already found, £0.50 + £0.25 = £0.75
Therefore 15% of £5 is equal to £0.75
Find 10% of £5 which is 0.5 and half that to get 5% which is 0.25 and both answers together which is 0.75.
Method 1:
1) convert 15% to a decimal by dividing by 100. -> 15/100 = 0.15
2) Multiply 5 by 0.15 to get 0.75
Method 2:
1) Convert 15% to a fraction -> 15/100
2) Divide 5 by 100 (denominator) to give 0.05
3) Multiply 0.05 by by 15 (numerator) to get 0.75

5 divided by 100 is 0.05. Multiply this by 15 which is 0.75 or 75p!
