Mass & Inertia Flashcards
All 4 cards in this deck
What is inertial mass a measure of?
How difficult it is to change the velocity of an object, including changing it from rest.
How is inertial mass defined, as an equation?
inertial mass (kg) = force (N) ÷ acceleration (m/s²)
True or false? An object with a larger inertial mass is easier to speed up or slow down with a given force.
False. A larger inertial mass means its velocity is harder to change, so the same force gives a smaller acceleration.
What is inertia?
An object's tendency to resist any change to its motion: it stays at rest, or at a constant velocity, until a resultant force acts on it.
