Interpreting Inequalities Flashcards

All 5 cards in this deck

What does the symbol ≤\le mean?

Less than or equal to.

What is a double inequality?

e.g. −3<t≤2-3 < t \le 2

An inequality giving both a lower and an upper bound for the unknown.

e.g. tt is greater than −3-3 and less than or equal to 22.

For the inequality −2≤n<5-2 \le n < 5 where nn is an integer, what is the greatest possible value of nn?

44 — because 55 itself is not included by <<.

True or false? x<5x < 5 and x≤5x \le 5 give the same list of integer values.

False. x≤5x \le 5 includes 55; x<5x < 5 does not.

True or false? "No more than 30 people" is written as p<30p < 30.

False. It is p≤30p \le 30, since 30 people is allowed.
