  3. Round down to a whole number: 46 notes

An exchange rate changes so that there are fewer dollars to £1. What happens to the cost in pounds of a holiday priced in dollars?

It rises.
Each £1 buys fewer dollars, so more pounds are needed.

What are the steps to find the total cost in pounds of a holiday with costs in two currencies?

e.g. flights £300, hotel $150 per night for 4 nights, £1 = $1.90

  1. Total the costs in the foreign currency: 150×4=$600150 \times 4 = \$600
  2. Convert that total into pounds: 600÷1.90=£315.79600 \div 1.90 = £315.79
  3. Add the costs already in pounds: 315.79+300=£615.79315.79 + 300 = £615.79
