Hi Tia.
To show 42p as a percentage of 68p, you would divide 42 by 68 and then multiply that answer by 100 to give the answer as a percentage.
So the answer would be 61.8% if you wanted it to 1 decimal place or 62% if you wanted it to 0 decimal places.
Hope this makes sense!

You would place 42 as the numerator and 68 as the denominator (42/68). Then you would divide both the top and bottom by the same number to a simplified version (till it isn’t divisible by a common factor).

42p would be 61.8% of 68. You have to divide 42 by 68 and multiple the answer by 100 to get the percentage, which I have then rounded up to the first decimal place

Hi Tia,
I would divide 42p by 68p and then multiply the answer by 100.
See my workings below:
42÷68= 0.6176
0.6167x100= 61.67
=61p
I always find it easier taking it step by step and breaking it down.
Hope that helps!

Hi there!
To answer this question, firstly view the problem as a fraction, as we want 42p as a percentage of 68p we would write that as:
42/68
This is because we are looking for 42p's worth of the original 68p. Convert this fraction into a decimal as we want the answer to be in whole numbers as we are looking for a percentage. To convert from a fraction to a decimal, we simply divide the numbers by each other:
42÷68 = 0.617... (3 Significant figures)
This number we've just got is equal to 1% of the 42p, however, we want 100% of what 42p is equal to, therefore we will just multiply the number we've just got by 100:
0.617 x 100 = 61.76.. (3 significant figures)
Always remember to round to how many significant figures it has asked for, and to put the percentage on the end, so your answer will be 62% (1 significant figure)
