First, we need to make sure both numbers have the same currency or "units", so we will convert £1.20 to 120p as £1 contains 100 pence and £0.20 is 20 pence.
This is how it looks, 57/120. To convert from fractions to percentages, we can use a division method or use a calculator to divide this, we then get 0.475. To convert this to a percentage, we multiply the number by 100. The final answer is 47.5%.

Hi, I would set this out:
1.20 = 100% , therefore 1% = 0.012
I would then do: 0.57/0.012 = 47.5%

you would take 52, divide it by 1.20 and multiple it by 100.

Best thing to do first is to convert both in pence (57p and 120p). Then, as you are trying to get a particular portion do 57/120 and for percentage x100:
57/120 x 100 = 47.5%

Divide 57 by 120, then multiply by 100 to give the percentage
Hi! This would be 48%. Hope that helps :)
A quick way to solve this puzzle is to divide 57 by 120, and then times by 100.
So, (57/120)*100 = 47.5.
57 is therefore 47.5% of 120.
To elaborate, we have to view £1.20 as 100% in this equation.
Then, we can use 'x' to represent the value that we're looking for.
So:
100% = 120
x% = 57
Therefore
100% / x% is the same as 120/57.
Then, take the inverse:
x% / 100% is the same as 57/120.
Then take the 100% to the RHS (Right hand side) and you have:
x% = (57/120)*100 = 47.5

Hi Miss Ryan!
Lets begin by remembering what a percentage is? A percentage can be a portion of an amount. If we have 100% of an amount then we have the full amount. For example if we have 100% of a chocolate bar then all the chocolate is ours. If we have 50% of a bar then we have half the chocolate bar because 50 is half of 100. We can use this equation to help solve the question
Here are a number of steps I would use to find the percentage:

Convert them both to the same units, either £0.57 and £1.20 or 57p and 120p, then divide the smaller by the larger and multiple by 100.

You have to consider 1.20£ is 100 and find the percentage of 57 pence. So it should come as .57 as 1.20 has 2 decimal points. you divide 57 by 120 and multiply by 100.
57/120x100 =47.5%
