Importance of Homeostasis Flashcards

All 4 cards in this deck

What is homeostasis?

The maintenance of a constant internal environment inside the body, despite internal and external changes.

Why must the body keep its internal conditions constant?

So that cells and enzymes work at their optimum, and cells are not damaged.

Name three conditions in the human body that are controlled by homeostasis.

Body temperature, blood glucose concentration and the water content of the blood.

True or false? Homeostasis only responds to changes outside the body.

False. It responds to internal changes too, e.g. exercise raising body temperature and using up blood glucose.
