Hydrogen vs Fossil Fuels Flashcards

All 4 cards in this deck

Give two advantages of using hydrogen rather than petrol as a car fuel.

Burning it produces only water, so no carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide or sulfur dioxide; the supply can be renewable (made from water).

Give two disadvantages of using hydrogen rather than petrol as a car fuel.

It is hard to store and transport (very flammable gas, stored under pressure), and there are few filling stations; energy from fossil fuels is often used to make it.

Which common fuels are non-renewable fossil fuels, and where does each come from?

Petrol, kerosene and diesel oil from crude oil; methane from natural gas.

What does it mean to say a fuel is non-renewable?

It is used up much faster than it is formed, so the supply is finite and cannot be replaced.
