5 times 1/4 is the same as saying 5/1 times 1/4. Now, you just multiply the numerators together and denominators together. So, 5 times 1/4 equals 5/4

the number 5 is the same as 5/1 and so when 5/1 x 1/4 you times the numerators together and the denominators together to get 5/4 which is the same as 1 1/4 and 1.25

5*1/4
basically 5/1 * 1/4
so denominator 1 is cancelled by numerator 1
which gives a remainder of 5/4
the answer is 5/4
