Methods of Training Flashcards
All 8 cards in this deck
What is induction training and when does it take place?
Training to help an employee settle into the business, given when an employee first joins a business (or just before starting).
Name three things usually covered in induction training.
Meeting colleagues, a tour of the building, IT systems, company rules and procedures, health and safety (e.g. fire evacuation procedures).
Give one benefit of induction training to a business.
New employees settle in quickly so become productive sooner; they also feel valued and supported, so are less likely to leave.
What is on the job training?
e.g. give one form of it
Training that takes place in the workplace, where an employee learns from a more experienced colleague.
e.g. work shadowing.
What is off the job training?
e.g. give one place it could happen
Training that takes place away from the employee's usual workplace.
e.g. a course run at a college or external training provider.
Give one advantage of on the job training compared with off the job training.
It can be done while the employee is working, so less production time is lost.
True or false? On the job training is likely to bring new ideas into a business.
False. Employees are trained by existing staff, so existing methods are repeated; off the job training with external trainers is more likely to bring in new ideas.
Which training method is most likely to suit a business that needs an employee trained in the latest techniques and awarded a qualification?
e.g. a salon adding a new advanced treatment
Off the job training — a specialist external trainer teaches the latest techniques and can award a qualification.
