When multiplying fractions, we must remember that quarters are not a number, they are a thing. So if we imagine instead of quarters we have pencils:
5 x 1 pencil = 5 pencils
It is the same with quarters (and all other fractions), we only multiply the number we have and the bottom number never changes e.g.
5 x 1 quarter = 5 quarters or 1 whole and 1 quarter

When multiplying by a fraction, you should divide by the denominator and times by the numerator. In this case that would be 5 divided by 4 times by 1 which is 1.25.

You have 5 slices of cake meaning you have the whole 1 cake plus another slice of cake. This results in a total of one whole cake a ¼ slice. Therefore, 5 × ¼ = 1 and ¼ also written as 1¼

5x0.25 equals 1.25
5 x 1/4 =
5/1 x 1/4 =
5 x 1 = 5
1 x 4 = 4
therefore
= 5/4 or 1 1/4
5=5/1, 5*(1/4)=(5/1)*(1/4)=(5*1)/(1*4)=5/4=1.25
5x¼ = ⁵/4
= 1.25
