So firstly, 5 could be written as a fraction of 5/1. This is because 5 split between one person would still be 5. So then I would set out the equation:
5/1 x 1/4
Then you would times the top of the two fractions together, the numerators, 5 times 1 = 5, then times the bottom two numbers together, the denominators. This would be 1 times 4 which equals 4. This means that the final fraction would be 5/4.

because: 1/4 is the same as 0.25
5 x 0.25 = 1.25
or: 5 can be imagined as 5/1, therefore you do 5/1 x 1/4 = 5/4 = 1.25

The simplest way to do this would be to first convert the fraction into a decimal, to do that we need to divide the denominator by the numerator, in this case 1 divided by 4. The answer is now 0.25, now you can multiply the answer by 5, giving us 1.25 or 1 1/4.
I hope that is helpful.

When multiplying by a fraction, you should divide by the denominator and times by the numerator. In this case that would be 5 divided by 4 times by 1 which is 1.25.

You need to multiple numerators together so 5x1= 5, Denominator would remain the same so equals 5/4 or 1 1/4

5 x 1/4 is equal to 5/1 x 1/4. Once converting both into fractions, you can treat them as two sums. When multiplying both fractions, you multiply the numerators together (in this case 5x1=5) and the denominator together (in this case 1x4=4). Therefore, the answer is 5/4 or 1 and 1/4 provided the question for it in an improper fraction or mixed fraction. Hope this helps!
