Effects of Climate Change Flashcards
All 5 cards in this deck
How does climate change affect food supply?
Lower crop yields reduce food supplies, increasing food insecurity and the risk of hunger, malnutrition and starvation.
Give two effects of rising sea levels on people.
Land is lost to coastal erosion and small islands are submerged; properties are destroyed and populations have to be evacuated or migrate.
On world maps of projected temperature change to 2100, which areas are shown to warm the most?
Areas north of 60°N, the high northern latitudes.
Give two effects of climate change on the environment.
Any two of: melting glaciers and ice sheets raise sea levels, flooding low-lying coastal habitats; warmer oceans bleach coral reefs; shrinking Arctic sea ice removes habitat for species that depend on it; plants and animals shift their ranges or decline in number.
How might climate change affect human health?
In some places hotter summers are increasing heat-related deaths, while milder winters reduce deaths from cold; insect-borne diseases such as malaria may spread to areas further from the Equator.
