Human Causes of Climate Change Flashcards

All 4 cards in this deck

What is the enhanced greenhouse effect?

The extra warming of the atmosphere caused by human activity adding greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide and methane, which trap more outgoing heat.

How does the use of fossil fuels cause climate change?

Burning fossil fuels releases carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, adding to the greenhouse effect.

Give two ways agriculture contributes to climate change.

Meat, dairy and rice production release methane; fossil fuels are used to make fertilisers and pesticides and to transport food.

How does deforestation increase carbon dioxide in the atmosphere?

Fewer trees means less CO2 is removed by photosynthesis, and CO2 is released when trees are burnt.
