What is the formula for percentage change?

What are the steps to set out a calculate answer?

e.g. revenue rises from £200 to £250 — calculate the percentage change

  1. Write the formula: new−originaloriginal×100\frac{\text{new} - \text{original}}{\text{original}} \times 100.
  2. Substitute and work through: 250−200200×100\frac{250-200}{200} \times 100.
  3. State the answer with its unit: 25%25\% increase.

What does a negative percentage change tell you?

The value has fallen — say so in your answer (e.g. 'a 10% decrease').

Which units should be attached to a business calculation answer?
