Evaluate Questions Flashcards
All 5 cards in this deck
What does an 'evaluate' question require?
A balanced answer showing both sides, plus a supported judgement in the conclusion.
What are the steps to structure an evaluate answer?
e.g. 'Evaluate whether Bella's Bakery should move to a larger shop' (9 marks)
- Argue one side with a developed chain: more space, so more customers served.
- Argue the other side: higher rent, so profit may fall.
- Conclude with a judgement and why: she should move, because demand already exceeds capacity.
True or false? A conclusion to an evaluate question should summarise the points you have already made.
False. It must reach a judgement, saying which argument matters most and why.
What is an 'unsupported assertion' in an extended answer?
A claim made with no reason, evidence or context to back it up.
What should decide how long your answer is and whether you plan it?
The marks available — high-mark evaluate questions need a short plan and an extended response.
